Testing Krita

This open source program for painting - Krita - is really cool! UI is inspired by Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, you can pretty feel it after first look and touch :). It is easy to find out tools you need and also many shortcuts are same as in photoshop. Everything works nicely, quick and smoothly. Only drawbacks I found are filters, because it recalculates image for pretty long time and sometime it freezes during this computations. It takes 2 hours go trough whole UI , functions and setup.

The best part are brushes! There is many settings, but also many cool built in presets with really natural feel and way how they work. In a way much better than in Photoshop. And cool funny thing is that brushes system was developed by Czech guy Lukáš Tvrdý.

For now I've been just trying various brushes, picked few of them and done quick 20 min scribbling. In folowing images you can see layering few brushes over themselves.I didn't used any layer blendings, just normal blending mode. It is really cool how great are "smudgy" brushes.

Layer 1 - Brush used: sketch_ink_big

Layer 2 - Brush used: hairy_texture

Layer 3 - Brush used: mixover_dull_bristle_soft

Layer 4 - Brush used: sponge_texture

Next I will try some realistic portrait with traditional media feel.
